Cillian Murphy made a starry appearance at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), where his latest film Small Things Like These became the first Irish film to open at the dazzling festival.

The event, now in its 74th iteration, celebrates filmmaking and the spectacular festival spans from 15-25 February.

The film, which is an adaptation of Claire Keegan's acclaimed novel of the same name, screened at the festival’s Opening Gala this evening. It's also competing in the Official Selection for the Golden Bear, the festival's top prize.

Murphy, who both stars in and produced the film, was front and centre for the importnat moment, adding another stop on his whirlwind press tour while promoting his last film, Oppenheimer. With the Academy Awards less than a month away, and the Cork man up for the Best Actor award, it's been a dizzying few weeks of red carpet appearances.

Murphy has dazzled at each one, and tonight was no different.

He stepped out wearing a sleek black suit, worn over a matching black shirt and paired with classic black dress shoes. He added some old-fashioned glamour, however, with a brown overcoat that contrasted perfectly with the dark monochromatic suit.

Also walking the red carpet was Murphy's Oppenheimer co-star Matt Damon, who also opted for a classic black suit and white shirt.

Emily Watson, who co-stars with Murphy in Small Things Like These, walked the red carpet in an oversized black suit, paired with a white shirt and yellow Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 trainers, the shoe of the season.

Lupita Nyong'o meanwhile went full glamour in an avant garde white fishtail gown trimmed with crystal embellishments.
