Awards season is well and truly underway, with the 75th Emmy Awards finally set to take place tonight, 15 January, in the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Honouring excellence in American television, an Emmy award is considered one of the four major American awards for performing arts and entertainment alongside the Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards.

The annual ceremony is usually an outlier from the rest of awards season, taking place in September, but the strike action taken by Hollywood's writers and actors last year delayed the star-studded event.

Just as the awards reflect what's hot in Hollywood, so too does its red carpet reflect what's moving the dial when it comes to fashion. It was no surprise, then, to see that shades of red dominated on the night, from rich burgundy and maroon, to vivid scarlet and crimson.

Leading the pack was Suki Waterhouse, who arguably stole the show in a dazzling scarlet gown by Valentino Couture. The design featured a full skirt, a tank-style top and an oversized bow, which perfectly highlighted Waterhouse's growing baby bump.

The Daisy Jones and the Six star, who is expecting her first child with partner Robert Pattinson, has been putting her spin on maternity style and this look was no less daring.

Camila Morrone wearing Atelier Versace.

In comparison, her co-star Camila Morrone opted for a similar shade but an entirely different style. Morrone walked the red carpet in an understated slinky red dress by Atelier Versace, which featured a V-neckline and a train.

Meghann Fahy, star of The White Lotus, also opted for a red gown, however she chose a deeper, vampier shade. Her custom Armani Privé gown featured a column silhouette, a sweetheart neckline and floral detailing on the bust.

Katherine Heigl wearing Reem Acra

Katherine Heigl went classic Old Hollywood glamour with her gown, choosing a feminine design by Reem Acra that featured a cinched in waist and flowing train.

Selena Gomez wearing Oscar de la Renta.

In sharp contrast, Selena Gomez opted for a garnet-hued sequinned dress by Oscar de la Renta, which shimmered in shades of red in the light. The illusion dress featured sheer panels, a large leaf design and a deep sweetheart neckline.
