No one said receiving a jumper for Christmas had to be boring. Whether you’re on the side of gifting or making a hint, we’ve done the heavy lifting for you…
Pellador x Guinness Knit, €110
There’s no way I can write an article about knitwear without mentioning Greg Hall’s Pellador - a Limerick-based brand that seems to be going from strength to strength. A personal favourite of mine, I've had my eye on the label’s recent collaboration with Guinness as it was both inspired by the brewing company’s rich history in football and classic 90s Irish jerseys.
Romanian-born, Irish-raised designer Mihai Mar is an aspiring young talent who recently celebrated a collaboration with esteemed Irish designer Aoife McNamara.
Our star favourite? The root jumper. A beloved design from the creative's 2022 collection entitled Memento, this piece was crafted over the course of 25 hours using mixed yarns, machine knitting techniques, and hand embroidery. This jumper is on the pricier side but it is certainly made to last.
Pearl Reddington's Nü Aran Cropped Jumper, €280
Coming from a long family line of artists, Pearl Reddington’s multiple design awards should come as no surprise. Her enchantment with neon wool might, though.
We’ve selected an iconic Reddington piece: The Nü Aran Cropped Jumper. First introduced as a limited-edition raffle prize, this piece quickly garnered attention for its vivid, luminous palette complete with the designer’s signature contrasting cuff. Luckily for neon-lovers, it’s now a mainstay on-site.
Moss + Cable's Heritage Aran, €170
London College of Fashion graduate Siobhán McKenna grew up in Donegal (the home of tweed), and a town steeped in the tradition of knitting. If there ever was a formula for a knitwear visionary, that’s likely it.
For that reason, it may come as no surprise that our chosen favourite is The Heritage Knit. Hand-loomed to a relaxed silhouette, with a blend of stitches unique to the area of South West Donegal - a location that has been handcrafting similar styles for decades - this piece is a cosy dream.
Hope Macaulay's chunky bow knit, €468.95
An Irish knitwear round-up is incomplete without the mention of this talented Irish designer. Since 2020, Macaulay has grown a loyal customer base across social media, all flocking towards her gargantuan, bold and beautiful woolen creations.
Our pick? The chunky bow knit sweater. Designed and hand spun in Northern Ireland from bubblegum pink merino wool, it’s topped with festive red bows that you can remove or adjust as you see fit.
