Joking that she was a "local ghost" visiting the film awards "from the 1800s", Aisling Bea made a dazzling appearance at the British Independent Film Awards over the weekend, wearing a dramatic sheer lace ensemble.

The Kildare-born actress and comedian dazzled on the red carpet at the awards ceremony, which was held at London's Old Billingsgate and was attended by a host of famous faces.

Now in its 26th year, the British Independent Film Awards celebrate British productions that are not bankrolled by a major studio.

Bea opted for an ethereal and romantic look on the night, wearing a delicate sheer lace dress by British label Preen By Thornton Bregazzi in a feminine shade of pale lavender. It featured a high Victorian neckline, sheer panels, structured shoulders, ruffles on the bust and flowing sleeves. She wore it over a pair of matching lavender briefs.

She paired the look with towering gold platform heels, and her "old bits I wear to death", according to her Instagram post, including gold hoop earrings, a smattering of chunky gold rings and bracelets.

Her hair was worn in loose waves, while her makeup was fresh and rosy, with strong brows and a swipe of pink blush to add to the romance of her look.

Elsewhere on the night, Andrew Scott looked dapper on the red carpet, stepping out in a monochrome black look. Scott, who was nominated in the Best Lead Performance category for his role in All of Us Strangers, wore a black suit, worn over a simple black vest, and accessorised with a selection of gold jewellery.

Scott's co-star Claire Foy, best known for her turn as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, also attended the awards, wearing a striking black velvet corset gown with a white satin trim on the bust.

The highly anticipated film by Andrew Haigh scooped the awards for best film, screenplay and director, as well as best supporting actor for Paul Mescal, on the night.
