To celebrate the 10th anniversary edition of the CR Fashion Book, Carine Roitfeld introduced 11 muses who have inspired her "across generations and fields", with 42-year-old Kardashian being the first.
The editor-in-chief took to Instagram to announce the theme and accompanying photoshoot saying:
"With the utmost respect to the figures who have guided my perception of what a muse is, the 23rd 'muses' themed issue of CR Fashion Book brings together a guard of inspiring muses across generations and fields.
"I've learned, through the powerful synergy of these collaborations, the essence of iconic fashion is born - a harmonious symphony of talent, passion, and vision that ignites the imagination."
Posting the photos to Instagram, Roitfeld credited Kardashian's muse-status with her long-running fame and far-reaching influence:
"For over 15 years, ever since America's First Family of reality TV graced our screens, @KimKardashian has not only redefined the very essence of a modern muse but has also forged a path as the driving force behind brands like @SKIMS and @SKKYPartners, solidifying her status as a true industry titan. Now, she's applying her influence where it matters most for future generations."
Photographed by Nadia Lee Cohen, Kardashian looked almost unrecognisable, with a dramatically new look featuring cropped hair, pencil-thin eyebrows, and smeared make-up.
Straying from her usual aesthetic of pristine glamour, the Skims founder donned an uncharacteristic wardrobe including a dirty white vest, slouchy jumpers, cateye sunglasses, and a cropped pink tutu.
Dubbed 'a Hollywood meltdown' by Creative Director Youssef Marquis, the shoot saw the reality-TV star posing with lit matches, cigarettes, and smeared make-up across her face.
The multi-hyphenate sat down with the publication for a "candid conversation" about motherhood, social justice, and doing things from your soul with one of her personal fashion.
Speaking on the topic of muses, she said: "An icon to me is someone who fights for what they want and goes after their dreams and makes them happen. Someone who is so unapologetically themselves but maintains the kindness and warmth I connect to."
