Setting the tone for the spring/summer 2024 collection, the show opened with a model wearing a grey jumpsuit featuring oversized, extra-long arms and super-short shorts.

Grey tailored looks featured heavily in the range designed by co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, who seemed to be riffing on traditionally masculine and feminine fashion tropes.

Boxy blazers were tucked into trousers, giving the illusion of overalls, while prim pencil skirts (a Prada favourite) were topped with workmanlike jackets.

Fluidity was another theme, as suggested by the wall of clear goo that dripped from the ceiling in the middle of the catwalk.

A series of beautiful knee-length dresses in shades of beige, powder blue, mint green and blush pink were topped with diaphanous layers of fabric.

As models walked, the flowing fabric created a smoke-like aura around their bodies.

Pastel frocks aside, this was a decidedly dark spring collection, with a slew of black and grey shift dresses printed with white minimalist rosettes.

The only real hint of brightness came from the footwear – some models walked in scarlet, fuchsia and lime green court heels or ballet flats.

The majority of models, however, walked the runway in shiny black loafers with matching ankle socks.

There was a smattering of sparkle thanks to the silver bead embellishments on LBDs and short tasselled skirts were worn over shorts.

Punk rock played as the models took their final turn on the catwalk before Mrs Prada (as she’s known), Simons and design director Fabio Zambernardi appeared briefly to receive applause from the audience.
