Jacob Elordi, Bella Thorne, and Sofia Coppola were among just some of the stars spotted on the 2023 Venice Film Festival red carpet.

Now in its 80th year, this year's Vernice Film Festival has been a markedly different one as it takes place during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) labour strike.

Under the conditions of the strike, union members are forbidden from filming or promoting their past, present and future works. Many of those who have attended the festival have done so only after getting an interim waiver approved, or are there to promote independently made films.

One movie that did go ahead with its premiere was Priscilla, a biographical drama written, directed and co-produced by Sofia Coppola.

SAG-AFTRA granted the movie an interim agreement for Venice Film Festival premiere due to the fact that it was shot outside of the United States.

Based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon, the film follows the life of Presley - including her incredibly high-profile relationship with singer Elvis Presley.

Produced by independent entertainment production company A24, the film stars American actress Cailee Spaeny as the titular role of Priscilla, and Australian actor Jacob Elordi - best known for his role in Euphoria - as Elvis.

The cast walked the red carpet alongside celebrity guests including American actress Bella Thorne, Italian fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, and Dominican-Italian actress Denny Méndez.
