Since 1956 the Eurovision song contest has become one of the most buzzed-about annual events. As the longest-running song contest in the history of TV, this competition has introduced the world to some of the biggest names in music history: Celine Dion, ABBA, Dustin the Turkey, etc.

So far, Ireland has hosted the Eurovision seven times - six times in Dublin and once in Millstreet, Co.Cork, in 1993.

We can proudly say that Ireland is the biggest Eurovision winner of all time with seven victories to our name; Dana's All Kinds of Everything in 1970, two-time winner Johnny Logan in 1980 and 1987 with What's Another Year and Hold Me Now, Rock and Roll Kids by Harrington and McGettigan in 1994, and Eimear Quinn in 1996 performing her song The Voice.

The Coronavirus pandemic put the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest on hold in 2020, but the contest got back on track in 2021 in Rotterdam, with the Netherlands hosting thanks to their victory at the 2019 contest with the song Arcade by Duncan Laurence.

While Sam Ryder came second to Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra last year, Liverpool will be hosting the music competition on behalf of the war-torn nation.

It will be the first time since 1998 that the event has been held in the UK and Ireland will be represented by indie rock band Wild Youth.
