The Met Gala has kicked off in Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, with scores of celebrities honouring late designer Karl Lagerfeld and his storied role in fashion history.
The theme of the night is Karl Largerfeld: A Line of Beauty, and stars like Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa and Gisele Bunchen walking the Met Gala stairs in Chanel couture.
Among them was Nicole Kidman, who dazzled in a piece of fashion history herself.

The Moulin Rouge! star stepped out in a Karl Lagerfeld-era Chanel Haute Couture pale pink gown from 2004, a pale pink tulle design that was accented with feathers and shimmering embellishments.
It wasn't the star's first time wearing the gown, however: eagle-eyed fashion fans will remember the striking creation from Kidman's iconic Chanel No. 5 advert from 2004.
Directed by Baz Lurhmann, who had directed Kidman in Moulin Rouge! and Australia, the advert was a typically cinematic piece and followed Kidman as she played a Hollywood starlet trying to escape the spotlight.
It featured some standout outfits, including a deconstructed tuxedo, but it was the flowing pink gown fluttering behind Kidman that stood out.
Speaking to Vogue, Kidman reflected on the gown: "I have the sketches from when he was drawing it," Nicole said. " I remember fitting it repeatedly, my deep deep love of Karl came from this time together so to be able to honour him and wear this now for Chanel and show how these couture gowns last. If you take care of them and love them they are timeless."

With a four-meter train in circumference, and embroidered with no less than 250 pink ostrich feathers, and over 3,000 silver crystals and sequins, the gown looked just as spectacular tonight. This time, Kidman styled it with simple black strappy heels.
Her hair, meanwhile, was gently waved and pulled back slightly, while her makeup was fresh and glowy.
Kidman even got to meet up with her former director Lurhmann, who also attended the Gala tonight.
