Paul Mescal wore Simone Rocha for God's Creatures premiere in Dublin

Paul Mescal wore a full Simone Rocha ensemble for the God's Creatures premiere in Dublin, where he walked the red carpet alongside co-star Emily Watson.

The event took place at Smithfield's Lighthouse Cinema and opened the Dublin International Film Festival. Alongside Mescal and Watson were co-stars Aisling Franciosi and Toni O'Rourke, as well as directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, writer/producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly and screenwriter Shane Crowley.

Mescal made a point to greet as many fans as possible on his way into the gala screening. The Academy Award-nominated actor has become renowned for his red-carpet fashion sense, often dazzling in avant-garde looks and classic tuxedos.

He told RTÉ Lifestyle that he was wearing a full Simone Rocha outfit, giving a nod to "one of our own who I absolutely love".

The look comprised of a longline leather coat with 70's style lapels, worn over a crisp white shirt, black tie and slightly cropped black trousers. He finished his look with a pair of sleek black leather boots, a mini gold earring, and his (currently) trademark curly mullet.

"I'm so delighted to get to wear her here at the Irish premiere", he added, before laughing "but yeah, my wonderful stylist Felicity Kay sorts me out!"

Having stunned in a number of fashion shoots – not least the one that saw him don thigh-high leather boots – Mescal is no stranger to embracing boundary-pushing fashion. From walking red carpets in custom Gucci and Cartier jewellery, to stealing headlines way back in 2020 with his GAA shorts and vintage Adidas bomber jacket, Mescal was seemingly fast-tracked to fashion icon status.

When asked how he thinks about fashion, and Irish fashion in particular, Mescal's response was typically humble.

"The world of fashion, I feel like not the most equipped to answer other than I'm really enjoying starting out into that world, and getting to wear Simone here in Dublin is cool."

Elsewhere on the red carpet Mescal's co-star Watson, who plays his character's mother in God's Creatures, looked dazzling on the red carpet, telling RTÉ Lifestyle that her black lace gown was by coveted label The Vampire's Wife.

She paired her gown with white trainers and a white stole, and wore her hair swept into a romantic up-do. A vampy dark lip completed her look.

Toni O'Rourke, who stars alongside Mescal and Watson, also dazzled on the red carpet in a black and red ensemble. She told RTÉ Lifestyle that it was by Irish designer Lia Cowan, who is known for her voluminous designs.

Her dress featured a rounded high neckline that flowed out in tiered ruffles at the skirt. She added a structural handbag in a vibrant shade of red, which was designed by An Mhaith.

Described as "a quietly devastating drama set on the north-west coast of Ireland" God's Creatures is fresh off an acclaimed run of appearances, particularly at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival Directors’ Fortnight.

In a windswept fishing village, a mother is torn between protecting her beloved son and her own sense of right and wrong. A lie she tells for him rips apart their family and close-knit community in this tense, sweepingly emotional epic.

God’s Creatures will release to cinemas in Ireland on March 24th and the UK on March 31st.
