Known as the 'British Oscars', the BAFTAs takes place on Sunday, 19 February, in London's bustling Southbank Centre.

Now in its 76th year, the celebrated award ceremony heralded a new era of the event by moving from Royal Albert Hall, where it had been held for the previous six years, to the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.

Always a star-studded event, the BAFTAs also promised a glamorous red carpet, as some of the biggest names in the film industry and more strut their stuff in the lead-up to the Oscars.

Despite the rolling out of the red carpet, this year's ceremony was positively green, with a host of Irish names getting top billing and dominating many categories.

The Banshees of Inisherin, Aftersun, The Wonder, An Irish Goodbye, and An Cailín Ciúin are all nominated for awards, with stars like Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Paul Mescal, and more expected on the night.

There was extra excitement as the final four categories - best actor, best actress, best director, and best film - were announced live on air for the first time in the awards' history.

Many of the A-list stars were spotted wearing blue ribbons to show support for refugees and those who have been displaced due to war and other events such as the Turkey-Syria earthquake.
