Great Lengths' The Mane Event is set to returns as a post-Ladies Day celebration on Thursday 18th August from 6-8pm in House following The Dublin Horse Show.
This best-tressed competition will see competitors in for with a chance to win three amazing prizes on the night.
Ahead of the big event, Irish Milliner Margaret O’Connor, who has once again teamed up with Great Lengths to create a selection of bespoke headpieces which were styled with Rag Revolution’s Spring Summer Collection, is sharing some top styling tips.
1. Colour is your best friend
There is nothing more eye-catching than beautiful colours on a summer’s day. Whether you go for head-to-toe colour or a standout vibrant headpiece, my number one tip is to add colour into your look, especially if you are looking to attract the judges and bag a prize on the day.

2. Hat-trick
You can go big with hats but you don’t need to put the kitchen sink on your head to stand out. Any good milliner will do a consultation with you and create something beautiful and bespoke to you and your personality to compliment your outfit.
I would recommend two headpieces for any ladies entering Ladies Day. I would go for a big statement hat for the day event and would change into a head-band or easy-to-wear piece for the evening. No excuse to go home early then!

3. Comfort is key and think about day to night
Wear something comfortable but classic. It’s likely you are going to be wearing the look for several hours so consider how long you can last in your outfit, footwear and shapewear. I like to bring a second pair of shoes out if I can to change into later on.

4. Mix designer pieces in with high street gems
Don’t think you need to spend a fortune to stand out at Ladies Day. Judges love hearing how you put your outfit together and if it’s a feelgood story, even better. Mix new pieces in with vintage nuggets or family heirlooms. The more original the better.

5. Consider your hair & make-up
Treat yourself to a nice blow-dry or up style. Especially if you’re rocking a cool hat or head-piece. Choose a long-wearing lipstick so you don’t have to even thing about reapplying too often. Reds and pinks really pop in photos. Avoid instant tan too as you never know with the unpredictable Irish weather.
