The Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II began yesterday, and the extended Royal Family came out in force for yesterday's first big event, Trooping the Colour.

The parade is full of marching guards and is used to mark the official birthdays of the sovereigns. This year, Prince Charles, Princess Anne and Prince William all took part in the parade, riding on horseback.

Kate Middleton rode to Buckingham Palace with her three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, in a carriage, and wore a typically striking outfit for the occasion.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore an elegant white ensemble for Trooping the Colour, and even added a sentimental nod to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Kate wore a sophisticated Alexander McQueen coat dress that she first wore last year at the G7 reception in June. It features structured shoulders, a flared, full skirt, slightly flared cuffs and peak lapels, with the cinched-in waist accented even more by two simple buttons.

She accessorised this with a striking hat by Irish milliner Philip Treacy, a navy woven circular design with a white accent trim and matching white embellishments. Worn slightly dipped to one side, it framed her face perfectly.

Her relatively simple outfit allowed her accessories to shine, especially since she wore a pair of earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. The drop earrings, featuring two sapphire and diamond clusters connected by a short chain of diamonds, match a pendant and the engagement ring Kate has.

Kate also wore her Multrees Chain Wallet Clutch by Scottish brand Strathberry, a navy leather clutch with gold hardware on the front.

Her hair was styled in to a voluminous and intricate up-do to accommodate her hat, with her long brown tresses gathered into a rolled twist and pinned at the nape of her neck.

Her makeup was rich and summery, with a brown smokey eye, black eyeliner, a swish of blush and a nude lipstick completing her look.
