Kate Middleton is a pro when it comes to dressing for an occasion, but it's not just at royal galas and jubilee events that her star power shines.

Kate let her inner Hollywood starlet come through as she walked the red carpet for the Top Gun: Maverick premiere, in a dazzlingly chic and modern black and white gown that marked a turn away from the romantic and feminine styles she's favoured before.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were guests of honour on the red carpet of the premiere in London's Leicester Square.

The premiere was designated a Royal Film Performance™ and therefore a black-tie event, and aimed to raise funds for the Film and TV charity, an organisation that helps those working behind the scenes in the film and television industries in the UK.

They were in glamorous company as they mingled with the film's stars, including Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller and, of course, Tom Cruise.

Even Prince William dressed up a little more for the occasion, donning a chic midnight blue Alexander McQueen velvet dinner jacket, paired with a white shirt and black tuxedo trousers.

He paired this with velvet slippers that were embroidered with fighter planes, which are by Crockett and Jones.

But of course, all eyes were on Kate's striking gown, a black and white creation by Roland Mouret – once a go-to designer for Meghan Markle.

She wore the Lamble style gown, which featured a form-fitting bodice, slightly flared skirt and a Bardot neckline in contrasting white.

She paired this with her Wavy Cutout Pumps by Prada, an elegant pair of heels featuring black suede with delicate cut-outs, as well as the Alexander McQueen Beetle Box Clutch – a black leather clutch bag that usually features a bejewelled beetle on the clasp, but here doesn't.

She added a final bit of sparkle to her look with the Tsar Star Studs and Drops by Robinson Pelham, a dazzling pair of drop earrings featuring diamond stars in a white gold setting. They complimented the Duchess's sleek look on the night perfectly.

Finally, she styled her long brown hair in a straight style, tucked behind her ears, while her makeup was fresh and glowy, with a swish of contour and a nude lipstick.
