Arguably the biggest date on the fashion calendar, the Met Gala is an annual extravaganza that sees the world's most famous faces dare to display their most extravagant looks under the watchful eye of event chair Anna Wintour.

Cancelled in 2020 and delayed from its usual slot on the first Monday in May in 2021, this year's gala is set to be exceptionally celebratory with the spectacular theme of 'gilded glamour'.

According to Vogue, organisers have asked attendees to "embody the grandeur—and perhaps the dichotomy—of Gilded Age New York".

The guest list remains tightly under wraps, but this year's co-chairs have been listed as Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, while designer Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Mosseri, and Vogue's Anna Wintour will continue as honorary co-chairs.

The star-studded fundraiser will see some of the globe's most famous faces work the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, providing show-stopping looks as well as raising funds for The Costume Institute.

As per tradition, the event's theme is made to match the upcoming exhibition taking place at the museum.

Part One, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which is currently taking place in the Anna Wintour Costume Center, celebrated The Costume Institute's 75th anniversary and established a modern vocabulary of fashion.

Part Two, In America: An Anthology of Fashion - which is set to open in the American Wing period rooms on May 5, 2022 - will present "sartorial narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those rooms".
