From the now-iconic chain he wore as Connell in Normal People to the €550 Gucci shorts inspired by his casual wear, Paul Mescal is the fashion idol we never knew we needed.

The Maynooth man has once again sent fans into a flurry with his latest look: a Metallica t-shirt, Kildare GAA shorts and an eye-catching moustache.

A lucky fan managed to snap a photo with the actor along with his Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones while attending Coachella.

Mescal donned the outfit while attending the Los-Angeles based festival to support his girlfriend, American singer Phoebe Bridgers, who was playing over both weekends.

Known on TikTok as the 'Influencer Olymics', the festival is known as famous for its fashion as its musical performances, with the desert surroundings becoming a breeding ground for viral-worthy looks.

In comparison to the body chains and sequins around him, Mescal's look was refreshingly simple and, as the influencers say, 'authentic'.

As a former GAA player himself, the sporty shorts are clearly a beloved item of his own wardrobe and not the choice of some PR-approved stylist. However, that doesn't mean they're any less chic.

Doing as much good work for the Gaelic Athletic Association as an Irish man on the world stage can, Mescal previously donned pair of O'Neills shorts in a photoshoot for GQ magazine.

From there, the so called "Vintage Shorts" went on to find prominence in the fashion world, with Gucci adding similar shorts to their ready-to-wear collection in 2020, during peak Mescalmania.

So, when you wear your old GAA shorts to musical festivals this summer, you'll be following in the footsteps of a true tastemaker.
