Zendaya, Mary J Blige, Kerry Washington and Jennifer Hudson were just some of the big names in attendance at the 53rd NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles, California last night.

The annual awards ceremony celebrates outstanding achievements of people of color in television, music, literature, and film as well as honouring those who promote social justice through creative endeavors.

Special honorary awards were presented to exceptional individuals and organizations for distinguished public service.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were awarded the President's Awards; Samuel L. Jackson was presented the Chairman's Award; Nikole Hannah-Jones, an award-winning investigative reporter who covers civil rights injustice for The New York Times Magazine, got the Social Justice Impact Award; costume designer Ruth E. Carter received the Vanguard Award for Costume Design; Scot X. Esdaile was named this year's NAACP Activist of the Year.
