It was a memorable night for Nicola Coughlan, the Galway star best known for her scene-stealing roles on Derry Girls and Bridgerton, as she walked away with the Rising Star IFTA award last night.

However, it was also a memorable night for her fashion looks, as she dazzled in a show-stopping gown and Irish design.

The virtual awards, hosted by Gráinne Seoige, were shown on Virgin Media One last night, It featured a bevy of high-profile presenters, including Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, who all presented their awards remotely.

Among the stars picking up awards on the night were Paul Mescal, Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson, Sharon Horgan and Sally Rooney.

Bridgerton star Nicola is known for her bold and romantic style, favouring theatrical silhouettes, glamorous accessories and sleek, modern beauty looks. Her Instagram feed is a riot of brilliant colours, vampy outfits and dresses that approach high fashion rather than mere glitz and glam.

And for the IFTAS, Nicola pulled out all the stops. Attending the award ceremony remotely from her home, with a bottle of bubbly and hairspray cans beside her laptop, the star looked breathtaking in a crisp white gown by Self Portrait, a line favoured by everyone from fellow Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor to Beyonce.

The gown, featuring striking puffed shoulders, long sleeves and a structured waist, was vaguely 80s-inspired but with a romantic sweetheart neckline that gave a nod to her Bridgerton costumes.

Nicola paired this with stunning gold and gemstone drop earrings by Simone Rocha, as a fierce supporter of the Irish designer.

Contrasting perfectly with her classic and romantic outfit, Nicola went with a bold and modern beauty look as she typically does, choosing a bright red lip to add a pop of colour to her ensemble and a hazy wash of rust-coloured eyeshadow to make her blue eyes pop. Topped off with lashings of mascara, her look was just the right level of glam.

Her platinum blonde hair was cropped short and styled into a neat wavy bob that framed her face but let everything else do the talking.

Posting on Instagram, Nicola celebrated her win, writing: "I flippin won the Rising Star #IFTA and gave a speech where I for some reason thanked Paul Mescal who I have never worked with in my life. It is such an unbelievable honour I'm so grateful."
