Seeing as she studied art history in university at St. Andrews, it's no surprise that Kate Middleton pulled out a dazzling outfit for her trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington this morning.
Kate, who has been a patron of the museum – best known for its spectacular fashion retrospectives on the work of designers such as Alexander McQueen, a favourite of the Duchess, and Dior – since 2018, paid a visit to the museum as it reopened to the public after closing amid the last UK lockdown.
Kate's love of art has shone through the pandemic, as she headed up the Hold Still photography campaign, and while there she viewed two of the museum's exhibitions. So it's no wonder she dressed to impress on this engagement.
Kate went for a bold look, stepping out in a striking red check Alessandra Rich dress. The houndstooth patterned dress costs £1,565 and features a long 70's-inspired Peter Pan collar, voluminous sleeves, a retro dropped waist and pleated midi skirt. The red and black check pattern was enhanced by the simple black buttons that dotted the front.
Although the style is now sold out, since it's from an older collection, it's a style that is incredibly popular today, which many brands putting their own spin on the classic silhouette.
Kate paired her outfit with a dazzling pair of shoes, choosing black suede stilettos by Jennifer Chamandi, accented with gold embellishments. She matched these to her black suede clutch bag, which was neat enough to let her dress do the talking.
Adding a touch of glamour to her look, Kate accessorised with dainty gold chains layered over one another, as well as textured gold hoop earrings from high street brand & Other Stories. She added a simple black protective face mask while touring the museum.
Her long brown tresses were styled into a curly and voluminous blow dry, while her makeup was kept fresh and neutral, a subtle smokey eyeshadow helping her eyes pop.
