January is the perfect time for changing up your look. The glitz of Christmas is passed, spring is closer than ever and a new year is ideal for trying a new haircut or colour.

Of course, with salons currently closed under Level 5 restrictions and more of us cooped up at home these days, there isn't as much opportunity to switch things up. But Una Healy proves that taking matters into your own hands isn't always a disaster.

The former Saturdays songstress is the latest to give her locks the chop, as salons remain closed around Ireland.

Known for her dazzling auburn tresses, usually lightly curled and styled into beachy waves, Healy debuted a sleeker look. Sharing a snap to Instagram, the singer wrote: "Finally growing my "own" hair... very 90s vibes (cut it myself)."

Far shorter than her usual style, Healy rocked a sleek long bob blow dried straight, with feathery layers framing her face.

The sharp cut and collar-bone length was a perfect throwback to the 90s style, and still effortlessly trendy thanks to the likes of Kim Kardashian rocking it in recent months.

Healy finished her look with a strong makeup look, wearing graphic black eyeliner in a dramatic cat eye shape, contoured eyeshadow and a glossy pink lip.

Her at-home haircut went down a treat with her followers, as former bandmate Rochelle Humes commented "Love" and celebrity hairstylist James Johnson gave it his seal of approval, writing "Beautiful".

We're loving the example Healy is setting, encouraging others to try their hand at styling their own hair. Tutorials have flooded Instagram and TikTok, with curtain bangs becoming one of the most popular styles to try at home.

Shaving your head might seem like the easiest – if not most fashion-forward – way forward, but learning how to bang your own hair, trim layers and more is relatively easy. Click here for a full guide to cutting your own hair.
