They may have been over 5,000 miles away from London's Remembrance Day celebrations, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked the day in their own way regardless.

The couple, who relocated to Los Angeles earlier this year and have settled in a lavish home in Montecito, paid a private visit to the Los Angeles National Cemetery on Sunday, where they laid flowers picked from their own garden.

It was reported that Prince Harry was refused permission to have a wreath laid at the Remembrance Day ceremony at The Cenotaph in London, as he is no longer a representative of the royal family.

Harry – who served in the army for 10 years and was promoted to Captain during his tenure – still marked the day with his wife, Meghan.

The couple laid their flowers at two graves, one for those that served in the Royal Australian Air Force and one for soldiers from the Royal Canadian Artillery.

It's been a while since we've seen Meghan dressed up as formally, as her post-royal life has been defined by floaty dresses, loose silhouettes and bright pops of colour. However, she proved she still knows how to wow when necessary as she stepped out in a custom belted coat.

Much like Kate Middleton did for the London ceremony, Meghan chose a custom design by a firm favourite, Brandon Maxwell, a celebrated US-based designer. The Duchess dazzled in the black belted wool satin faille jacket dress, featuring a flared A-line skirt and cinched waist.

She added a pair of black gloves and finished the look with strappy black pumps from London-based designer Jennifer Chamandi. She added some sparkle with some of her favourite accessories, including her $7,000 Cartier Tank Française watch and her $6,550 Cartier Love bracelet.

She also wore a plain black protective face mask and carried a simple black clutch bag. She wore her long dark hair in loose waves, and kept her makeup simple.
