Emma Power's guide to tinting your eyebrows at home

When it comes to beauty trends, good eyebrows are now as important as healthy hair, glowing skin, and even eyeliner. When your brows are on fleek, your features become more defined and they create symmetry on your face.

Over the past few years, fuller and darker eyebrows have become very on-trend. Over-plucking is a thing of the past and we’re all about the high definition brow.

Creating the perfect shaped eyebrow takes patience, maintenance, and a good brow artist. While shaping should be left to a professional, a tint is very simple to do at home.

Most of us spend time filling in our eyebrows every day, in order to achieve a bolder and darker look, but tinting can save you time and eliminate the "drawn on" look by creating a natural dark brow.

Tinting your own brows can be nerve-wracking, as you don’t want to go too dark. Brow Artist Kath Mulhall, who is based in Moxie Studio in Dublin says '’when buying eyebrow dye, it’s best to buy from a chemist as the professional dyes can be a lot stronger’’.

When buying your kit, Kat says ‘’it’s best to go for a lighter colour as dark dyes can cause a building up that will be there when you go back to the salon.’’

Kat also stressed the importance of doing a patch test ‘’It’s very important to do a patch test 48 hours in advance. I recommend doing this even if you’ve had your eyebrows tinted in the past, as the home kits and professional kits will both be different than what your artist uses. You can also develop an allergy at any time’’.

We set RTE 2FM’s Emma Power a challenge, to see how easy it is to tint your brows at home. Watch the video to see how she got on.
