Marc Jacobs is sharing makeup tutorials from his hotel room

The iconic fashion designer is holed up in a hotel and, like so many of us, is extremely bored.

With celebrities around the world social distancing, we're starting to get some strange glimpses into their lives via Instagram: Cardi B is doing video calls with Bernie Sanders, Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy is teaching the world the importance of washing your hands, and Johnny Depp is transmitting messages of hope from a mystic cave somewhere.

But one of the best social media gifts we've been given is the makeup tutorials by Marc Jacobs, the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.

The iconic fashion designer is holed up in a hotel, away from his husband Char Defrancesco and family so, naturally, the legend broke out the makeup. As the head of one of the top fashion houses in the world, and a luxury makeup line to boot, we're living for Jacob's unfiltered, unpretentious but utterly glamorous makeup looks.

Calling them "too-torials", inviting others to collaborate on the looks, Jacobs first shared a sultry gold eyeshadow look inspired by the words of columnist Diana Vreeland: "A world without leopards, well, who would want to live there?"

Jacobs created a black and gold look, using his fingers to smudge and blend the colours into a lived-in and sultry look. Honouring his background as a major player in New York's LGBT, Jacobs pulled inspiration from drag makeup and chatted about how makeup can be used to push at gender boundaries.

"I don't really believe makeup has a gender," he said between lining each eye. "Makeup has no gender, objects have no gender, clothes have no gender and I don't think we've really got anything from labelling anything."

But the real showstopper was his most recent video, his take on the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show makeup worn by Dr. Frank N Furter, played by Tim Curry.

Wearing just a t-shirt, pearls, underwear and gold platform shoes, Jacobs served peak stay-at-home realness, honouring the "rite of passage" that is watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

"Like so many teenagers, I spent countless Friday and Saturday nights at midnight screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the 8th Street Playhouse (which is still standing!) and the Festival Theatre on 57th Street (which has long since closed)", he wrote on Instagram.

"It became an invitation (or excuse) to dress up and express oneself fearlessly. The cult classic made it cool for boys to wear sequins, satin and fishnets."

Starting with a primed base and eyelids, Jacobs started by sketching a line above his eyebrow with eyeliner. Next, he filled in his eyes with a mix of two blue eye pencils, topped it off with the most interesting lipstick application we've ever seen, and even treated followers to his rendition of the film's opening song, complete with a spotlight.

So if you're feeling a little bored and uninspired this week, don your platforms like Marc and paint the face!
