After her showstopping appearance at last year's tournament with sister-in-law Kate, it had been hoped that Meghan Markle would provide royal watchers worldwide with another chance to see the recent mum.

And yesterday, the Duchess of Sussex delighted the Wimbledon crowds with a surprise appearance, joining friends Lindsay Roth and Genevieve Hillis - who co-hosted Markle's baby shower - as they cheered on Serena Williams as she defeated Kaja Juvan on Court One.

The former actress has been friends with the tennis star for ten years, and has come to Wimbledon for the past few years to cheer Williams on. Yesterday, Williams beat Juvan, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

With such expectation placed on what Markle would wear - given how enchanting her previous Wimbledon look of a loose shirt and wide-leg trousers was - it was surprising to see her in something comparatively understated.

She arrived in a white and black-pin-striped blazer by L'Agence, simple black vest top by Lavender Hill Clothing and blue skinny jeans, finished with a chic Madewell Panama hat and glamorous Finlay London sunglasses.

The blazer, which retails for €588, was first worn by the Duchess on her tour of Australia last year and added to the Duchess's decidedly laid-back look - a somewhat controversial move given that the norm is to dress up for Wimbledon, despite there not being a set dress code.

Most notably, however, was her new accessory: a tiny gold necklace with the letter "A", for her two month-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The minute necklace is by Jennifer Meyer, and retails at $350. Meyer also designed the "Mommy" necklace Markle was seen wearing before giving birth, a piece that costs $850 and was believed to be a baby shower gift.

Speculation has been rife regarding the identity of Archie's godparents, which the royal couple confirmed this week would remain a secret. Given Markle's choice of guests for the tennis match, some royal watchers are speculating that either Lindsay or Genevieve - or both - is one of the godparents.

The Duchess has known the women since their days at Northwestern University in the US.
