Florals for Spring may not be groundbreaking, but pairing bold blooms with intricate checks is looking like the key trend for Spring/Summer 2019.

The Arnotts' Spring/Summer 2019 fashion show, produced and styled by Sinéad Keenan, and assisted by Katie Grogan, took place earlier this week and we got a sneak peek at what will be dominated the shops as the days get longer.

Keeping in mind how with each Spring collection the wave of florals is "nearing saturation point", the team put together a daring and exciting mix of prints, from hearts and dots to stripes and jacquard.

"It’s about clashing prints and, "florals for Spring", but it’s about making them kind of eclectic and modern and teaming different prints together as long as it’s tonal", Sinéad told us.

Cream box check coat, Jaeger, €315; floral jacket, Part Two, €159.95; floral trousers, Part Two, €119.95; black camisole, Topshop, €20; black strap crossbody bag, DKNY €228; shoes, Kurt Geiger, €80

Transitional dressing was key for the show, highlighting colours that work in Winter and Spring, such as navy and beige, as well as functional dressing that suits all types of weather.

Beige jacket, Caractere, €260; yellow cotton dress, Max & Co, €180; jacquard floral clutch, Olga Berg, €62; shoes, Carvela, €90

"For me, I’ve always been a champion of the trenchcoat", Sinéad said. "It’s a great transitional piece. There was plenty to choose from here at Arnotts. There are lots of different kinds of styles like the draped, soft pieces that kind of hang loose and are really relaxed. Then you’ve got the more structured pieces that would be a little bit heavier for a colder day.

As always, colour is central for updating your wardrobe, and Sinéad highlighted neutrals as a key look for Spring.

"A really strong trend for Spring across most collections was the neutral beiges and camels. It’s about mixing a pop of colour through them as well because a lot of Irish people feel quite washed-out with those kinds of tones, so it’s about maybe putting a white shirt under it or orange."

Purple blazer, Essentiel Antwerp, €365; purple trousers, Essentiel Antwerp, €195; purple metallic bag, Coccinelle, €270; shoes, Kurt Geiger, €170

By-passing dainty pastels, the show ended with a kaleidoscopic parade of all the colours of the rainbow, from pinks and oranges to vivid reds and cool blues.

"Yellow was a really strong colour that we featured for Spring, and we actually closed the show with a beautiful line-up of all the colours of Spring here from pinks to oranges, turquoises, and purples", Sinéad told us.
