Since 1956 the Eurovision song contest has become one of the most buzzed-about annual events. As the longest-running song contest in the history of TV, this competition has introduced the world to some of the biggest names in music history: Celine Dion, ABBA, Dustin the Turkey, etc.
So far, Ireland has hosted the Eurovision seven times - six times in Dublin and once in Millstreet, Co.Cork, in 1993.
We can proudly say that Ireland is the biggest Eurovision winner of all time with seven victories to our name; Dana's All Kinds of Everything in 1970, two-time winner Johnny Logan in 1980 and 1987 with What's Another Year and Hold Me Now, Rock and Roll Kids by Harrington and McGettigan in 1994, and Eimear Quinn in 1996 performing her song The Voice.
In 2019, Eurovision was hosted by Israel, following Netta Barzilai Eurovision win last year with her song Toy. Representing Ireland was 25-year-old Sarah McTernan from Co. Clare who made it to the second semi-finals with her song, 22. You can check out the song in the video above.
The Coronavirus pandemic but the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest on hold in 2020, but the contest will go ahead in this year in Rotterdam. The Netherlands is hosting thanks to their victory at the 2019 contest with the song Arcade by Duncan Laurence.
Ireland's Eurovision hopeful for this year is Lesley Roy with her song Maps. The Dublin singer, who is based in New York, will perform the upbeat song at the Eurovision Semi-Final in Rotterdam on May 18. You can check it out in the video above.
