It was announced today that Millie Mackintosh's fashion label has gone into liquidation with debts of a reported £548k (€617k).

The fashionista has spent much of her life in the limelight; her family were behind confectionery giant Mackintosh’s (now owned by Nestlé); she was married to British rapper Professor Green and she was a part of the popular reality show, Made in Chelsea.

Known for her high-end lifestyle, the former TV star has a number of friends in high places including actress and actor turned activist Meghan Markle who is due to marry Prince Harry this May.

Throughout her career, Millie has acquired a legion of fans - her Instagram alone has 1.3 million followers.

Not only that but numerous celebs, including our own Amanda Byram and Aoibhín Garrihy, have praised the designer's sharp suits on social media.

The Millie Mackintosh brand was launched exclusively through Asos but later landed in numerous stores including Arnotts in Ireland.

Unfortunately, despite all appearances, the UK Evening Standard has reported that Millie's Cammac Venture business has not done well and owed £178,000 from the collapse.

Earlier today, Millie posted a message to her Instagram followers saying:

"As someone who has always been passionate about fashion, I realise I have been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to build my own fashion business over the past four years.

"So, it is with great sadness that I have had to make the very tough decision to close it. Despite our best efforts and being a top seller with a number of stockings, the financial climate in the fashion industry has proved immensely challenging and the business is no longer sustainable. The unwavering support from friends, family, influencers, the industry and customers has made the decision even harder.

"I want to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank everyone who has been involved, especially my immediate team whom it's been a privilege to work with."
