Loving nominee Ruth Negga arrived on the Oscars red carpet last night wearing a stunning Valentino gown and matching jewels by Irene Neuwirth for Gemfields but it was her blue ribbon that initially had everyone talking.

The ribbon marks the American Civial Liberties Union's new campaign initiative and is "...a symbol of solidarity with the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, which has worked for nearly 100 years to defend and protect individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and law of the U.S."

Negga's stylist, Karla Welch, posted pictures of the actress on the red carpet on her Instagram and she wrote: "The accessory I'm most proud of #ACLU #MegaNegga

"The @aclu is the reason the Loving's were allowed to be married. The represent those who need it the most. This is something we ALL should believe in, regardless of political party."

The actress wasn't the only one to wear a ribbon at the 89th annual Academy Awards: Model Karlie Kloss, Cougar Town actress Busy Philipps, Hamilton broadway musical creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins and Sting all wore the blue ACLU ribbon.
