"It's all in the brain." That's the advice style expert Gok Wan had for Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning as they explored the issues so many of us have when it comes to how we look.

Gok is returning to Ireland next year with a new take on his hugely successful television shows – a live event for sharing stories and advice on style - The Gok Wan Fashion Brunch Club.

‘Confidence’ is a word that we hear a lot from Gok, and he told Ryan that people from all walks of life have the same struggles with style and clothing. He explained that feeling positive about ourselves is not really about clothing.

“It’s never really about the clothes that we wear. It’s never really about our bodies or how our bodies have changed. It’s more to do with how we see our reflection – the mood that we’re in”

The fashion guru also explained to Ryan that, from his experience of working with stars, fame and celebrity doesn’t mean you lose your insecurities. He spoke about one female celebrity who refused to wear a particular type of shoe because of how her feet looked.

"When you get that glimmer of ‘human-ness’ when you suddenly realise that we’re actually all the same."

And, what about the three most common questions Gok is asked most often from his army of fans

"The first one is ‘my tummy’… it’s all about how can I wear my clothes better.  Another area is dress shape.  A lot of people don’t know what dress shape they are… and the third one is can you go shopping with me – immediately!"
