Fishtails, milkmaids, Dutch...no matter what the style, braids are the perfect hairstyle for summer. If you have layers, very fine or silky hair, though, they can be hard to pull off. Strands can fall out, making your hair look messy – and not in the sexy, tousled way you wanted.
That’s where Redken Braid Defining Lotion comes in. A product so specific, you never imagined that you needed it. After all, there are already so many styling gels, creams, mousses, gums, waxes and sprays. What makes this one different?
Redken Braid Defining Lotion adds grip and texture to your tresses, preventing them from sliding out of your fingers while braiding. The formula is slightly tacky to the touch but non-greasy and clear, and is great for banishing frizz without leaving your hair feeling full of product.

While it does all the above, however, the product falls down in a few areas. If you have very thick hair like me, you need to use a lot of lotion in order to get a decent hold. The bottle is a slim 50mls, so I can't see it lasting longer than a few weeks.
The lotion does provide some control over my mane, but it isn't enough to keep my layers in line for more than a few hours – leaving me looking a bit deranged by the end of the day. It also has a very strong smell, which might come in handy if it’s been a while since your last shampoo, but you may want to steer clear of it unless you want to overpower your friends and family with its spicy-sweet aroma.
The product works best on one or two day-old or damp, towel-tried locks. But all in all, you might be better off saving yourself €23 and using a texturing spray or just plain old water.
