He will be joined on the show by two experts: Denise McAdam, session stylist and royal hairdresser; and Alain Pichon, an international session stylist whose clients have included Madonna, Scarlett Johansson and Claudia Schiffer.

Jones said of his new role: "I couldn't be more happy to be back on the BBC presenting such a fabulous show.

"There will be tears, laughter and a lot of hard work from the competitors and I will be there to bring you all the best bits."

The BBC said: "There will be eight very different competitors with their own unique visions and they are all utterly passionate about hair.

"Whether that's doing their friends' hair for nights out or creating their own amazing styles, they are all keen with the curling tongs and scissors.

"Each week they will face three different challenges which will put to test a distinct set of skills."
