Georgina Heffernan: Please tell us about your background in jewellery?
Maureen Harrison: After school I went in to the jewellery trade and after some years in the business I received my jeweller qualifications.
What is your design process?
It comes from an idea in my head. I search for stones and gold and silver components. When I have sourced them I visualise a style or design. Paying attention to current trends.
What are the top jewellery trends for autumn/winter 2012
Gold, rolled gold, simplicity in design; one striking piece rather then clutter; bold, single colours in semi-precious stones.
What have been some of your favourite jewellery pieces you've created and why?
My heavy silver and rolled gold necklaces and bracelets. My 2012 new hand crocheted gold fill collection.
Would you ever consider collaborating with a fashion designer?
Of course I would. At the moment we do a lot of work in the Mid-West at various Fashion Evenings where some designers launch their Season ranges.
Which jewellery designers do you admire?
I have a huge interest in all jewellery designs. I would have to say the more contemporary designs by Irish designers excites me.
What is your ultimate ambition? Where do you see yourself in the future?
At the moment I am concentrating on the retail side of my business. Trying to create exciting shopping experience in my three shops. Design is never far from my mind, I am always creating in my head. Realistically, in the future I would like the Seoidín brand available nationwide.
