The journalist was known for her quirky take on fashion, often wearing bright colours, hats and brightly coloured hair and make-up.

Piaggi is best-known for her writing in Vogue Italia, as well as other comissioning pieces in magazines and the editor-in-chief position of Vanity magazine. Her status as a style icon and a staple at the front row of hundreds of catwalk shows propelled her career to new heights in recent decades.

Piaggi's extensive wardrobe was the subject of an exhibition entitled 'Fashion-ology' at London's V&A Museum in 2006, where a selection of her garments and shoe collection were displayed, of which there are reportedly thousands.
