“I’m very glad and honoured to join such a prestigious house as Brioni, whose quintessential Italian timeless elegance has gained worldwide recognition in menswear" Mullane said. "I’m looking forward to work with Brioni’s sartorial artisans to continue developing the brand while staying true to its roots.”
In the early 00's, Mullane got his start in fashion working a year with Alexander McQueen. Over the next decade, Mullane would work for Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Hermés, all in a menswear designer capacity, but holding a senior designer role at Hermés.
At the start of 2010, he defected to Givenchy, where he was responsible for overseeing his entire team of menswear designers, under creative director Ricardo Tisci.
“Brendan has a sharp understanding of the brand, extensive experience in menswear design and a great creative talent across several categories. He also brings with him an understanding of the spirit of Brioni in this new phase of creation" said Brioni CEO Francesco Pesci.
Brioni was founded as a family company in Rome, in 1945. It's speciality has always been luxury menswear. The company was accquired by luxury and sport lifestyle group PPR.
PPR own some of fashion's biggest brands, which include Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as a controlling stake in Stella McCartney and Alexander MCQueen.
Mullane's first collection for the brand will be for A/W 2013, shown in Milan.
