Milan brings up some surprises

Prada, in sharp contrast to last season where they brought in a bevvy of A-list actors to showcase their slick, James Bond-inspired designs, had not a soul but a full-time model on their runway. To even add bouyance to that, light was minimal as both male and female models emerged from the shadows to walk harmoniously in the show.

Italian favourites Dolce & Gabbana ditched all the male models in favour for fifty or so local, normal Sicilian men to walk for them. Average wouldn't be the word, as all who modelled were still impeccably handsome in their designs, but models ranged from teen to middle-aged to show off the striped, fresco-printed and slouched, casual collection for next spring/summer.

Jil Sander triumphantly returned to her eponymous label for her first menswear show in over a decade. It was all brought right back to basics, and while the finesse of Raf Simons' touch wasn't present, it merely gave a starter of what's to come now that Sander is back at home, and the fashion set are famished for more.

Other notable shows included Gucci, Vivienne Westwood and John Varvatos who all kept it quite signature. Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Etro are due to show today, before all is packed up and the press fly to Paris for their next sartorial installment.
