London Collections: Men kicks off in royal style

"I'm finding it very hard to live with myself, ladies and gentlemen, because someone suggested that I might be an icon of fashion - after 64 bleeding years. I don't know why” Prince Charles exclaimed.

"I have lurched from being the best-dressed man to being the worst-dressed man," Prince Charles said. "I don't know why - presumably it sells publications. Meanwhile I have gone on, like a stopped clock - and my time comes around every 25 years."

Tinie Tempah, Dylan Jones, Sir Philip Green and David Walliams were among the celebrity guests at the opening event of London Collections: Men, the first three-day menswear fashion week in the UK. Designers Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, Anya Hindmarch and Tommy Hilfiger were also present to ring in the event.

Stephen Webster kicked off proceedings this morning with a breakfast presentation of his new menswear jewellery collection, followed by a stellar runway show by Lou Dalton. Alexa Chung was seated front row as was David Gandy.

This was followed by shows from Lou Dalton and Hackett, with Topman Design just finishing at 12:20pm.

The entire collection was very youthful and boyish, with a very laid-back, cool, Americana aesthetic. The casual silhouette was paired with skateboards and backpacks. While colour was big, with statement blocks in primaries, as well as splashed, fingerpaint prints with some Hawaiian influence took centre stage.

Short suits for men were huge, with most looks consisting of shorts and a blazer. Some boiler suits and male playsuits may cause controversy, though!

Sports influenced the latter end of the collection, with quaterback, crop t-shirts and light shorts stepping out in a number of block colours. Ronnie Wood, Nick Grimshaw and Reggie Yates joined David and Alexa at the front row.

Martine Rose, Oliver Spencer, YMC and Xander Zhou to follow later this afternoon. Tom Ford is set to host a fashionable insider party later on this evening for the A-list names in menswear.

Shows will be live streamed on the official London Collections website, with Martine Rose and Xander Zhou being shown at 2pm and 4pm, respectively. The full list of shows, presentations, talks and evening events is available from the official site as well.
