This is a perfect product for summer, especially for those of us who are lucky enough to be jetting away somewhere that’s hot, hot, hot.
There are a few things which I like about this spray; the first is that the formula is full of botanicals. It is made up of wintergreen and cinnamon oils which help to minimise colour fade, damage and dryness from the sun – which is an all too familiar experience, especially for those of us with coloured hair. There are also green tea extracts, organic sunflower seed oil and vitamin E in the spray, all which help protect the hair against free radicals which cause damage to the hairs structure, meaning that it will aid in the fight against that disarrayed hair that you get after brushing. Finally, organic shea butter, coconut and palm oils condition and detangle the hair without weighing it down.
The second thing I like about this product is that it has a lovely scent. It is a tropical blend of neroli, ylang-ylang and other flower and plant essences - all which combine to form a very refreshing and light scent that nobody could turn their noses up at.
Lastly, the spray comes in a handy sized bottle which makes it easy to throw into a bag without weighing it down – the last thing you need when lugging your other sun essentials - sun cream, sunglasses and a lilo to the beach.
The protective hair veil can be used in conjunction with two other Aveda sun products - the Aveda Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser and the Aveda Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque. All these products help defend the hair from sun exposure for up to sixteen hours.
If I’m honest I was a bit sceptical about trying out a hair product designed for the sun. Why? Well for a start there are a myriad of similar products available on the market but do any of them actually work? Would the product make my hair greasy? and ultimately is this a product worth the €27 price tag?
To address my initial reservations – This product does work. I haven’t had the pleasure of jetting off anywhere sunny recently, so the only major sun my hair has seen is this recent bout of good weather. So far though, this product is ‘working’.
I have applied a small amount of this spray to damp hair after getting out of the shower, but also on dry hair too before going out. In damp hair it definitely helps detangle, but generally this product has ‘done what it says on the tin’, I feel as though it has protected my hair, made it feel nicer and of course, smell delicious.
Hopefully I will get away this summer so I can really put this product to the test, but I would definitely buy a bottle of this, even for an Irish summer. The lightweight spray is not oily or thick, so a few even squirts did not make my hair greasy, but rather made it feel and look a lot nicer.
Final word - the price, although seemingly quite hefty is worth it. A little of this product goes a long way.
