Set in the beautiful surroundings of the the palace of Versailles, the German designer showcased the upcoming Cruise collection for pre-Spring 2013 yesterday.
The collection harped back to a bygone era of Revolution. Petticoats, frills and tight, corseted looks were amalgamated into modern day cuts of Summer dresses, swimwear and occasionwear.
The palette was fresh pastel, candy-coloured hues of light blue, blushed pink and soft metallics. Acccessories during the show included statement belts, oversized necklaces and chokers and golden gloves and wrist cuffs.
An interesting addition to the show were oversized pants and almost floor-length skirts. The collection seemed to have a mix of streetwear and more casual shapes, while still retaining all the old school charm and class of Chanel. Unconventional shapes, cuts and sizes paired with traditional fabrics and colours.
Each model was adorned with a candy-coloured or black, short cropped wig, with severe fringe. The make-up was embellished with mini Chanel symbols, the double 'c' logo fashioned as a beauty spot.
Skirts and dresses bore ultra-structuring at the waist, with added padding at the hip. Traditional, feminine shapes took centre-stage but were finished with modern hemlines. Sun hats completed many looks, both poolside and daywear.
The ususal mix of feminine embellishment of feathering, lace, sequin, ruffle and flowers added to almost every look.
