Over the weekend, Dannii Minogue hit headlines and trended on Twitter amidst speculation that she could make a "dramatic return" to the X Factor.
The newly-single, mum-of-one left the series in 2010 after winning with her act. Matt Cardle. Minogue appeared on the UK series for four seasons, before quitting the show to focus on infant son, Ethan, and her judging duties on Australia's Got Talent.
At the time of her departure, the Australian singer stated to The Telegraph that "During discussions for me to return (to The X Factor) it became clear that unfortunately, this year, the X Factor audition dates in the UK clash with the live shows of Australia's Got Talent during June and July. For this reason I am unable to return".
Her statement left it a possibility that she may return at some point, speaking only about the forthcoming year, and last weekend the rumour mill went into overdrive as a number of tabloid papers reported that talks were in place between producers and Minogue to secure her at this late stage.

This shake-up comes as this afternoon Kelly Rowland confirmed that she would not take her seat on the panel this year. In a statement, the singer said "I love the UK and being part of the show last year. Mentoring the girls was such an incredible experience I will never forget. I would like to thank Simon for the great opportunity and asking me to be a judge last season."
It is believed the singer is looking to concentrate on her solo music career, with a plan to stage a worldwide tour this year.
The Mail reported the source saying "Kelly was great in the auditions, but when she joined the live shows it just seemed that she didn’t really relax and enjoy herself. And to be honest, she wasn’t that popular with viewer".
Neither Minogue nor Rowland have commented on the speculation.
Katy Perry impressed during her guest judging stint on the show
Other names among the possibilities include Katy Perry, who served as a guest judge in place of Minogue for the Dublin auditions in 2010 and has performed on the show each season since.
The man in the know, Simon Cowell, tweeted a mysterious statement over the weekend, writing "I have some very exciting (and interesting!) @TheXFactor UK & @TheXFactorUSA news coming to you very soon...".
