Lagerfeld 'Adele a little too fat'

The creative director at Chanel insisted Adele has a "beautiful face and divine voice", after backtracking the comment he made about her weight. However he insisted that "the thing at the moment is Adele".

He sung the praises of Florence Welch, who performed for Chanel during their Paris runway show last season.

He continued his music musings by stating "Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer".

However Lagerfeld was not once the rake-thin fashionisto he is now, once tipping the scales at 16 stone. The designer went through a slimming transformation in the early Noughties and lost six and a half stone in just over a year.

All three singers who Lagarfeld namechecks have now appeared on the cover of British Vogue, with Del Rey's cover appearing on the upcoming March edition. Adele appeared on the October 2011 cover and Florence graced the first cover of 2012.

Adele has never been one to back down to criticism over her weight and is likely to brush Lagarfeld's comments off. She previously stated her weight has never been an issue to her, saying "I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me".

The singer is set to make her musical comeback at the Grammy Awards this Sunday night after undergoing surgery on her throat last Autumn.
