Back you go, whizzing through the 1980s to the 1940s, looking at the fashions and accessories of those different eras. The store is run by CarolAnne Joyce, a larger than life personality, with an eye for style and a passion for vintage clothing.

Georgina Heffernan caught up with her to find out a little more...

Georgina Heffernan: Vintage clothing is back in style, with a plethora of stores springing up all over the country - why do you think that it continues to be so popular?
CarolAnne Joyce: Vintage is for the people who want an exciting original buy, that’s why it’s nearly always in fashion.

What’s different about Love Vintage?
Love Vintage is different quite simply because of the quality stunning pieces at fantastic prices; it is not a precious shop we want everyone to find something. People are always welcome to have a browse. The shop is full of surprises, it reminds people of things they grew up with and inspires them.

Is it difficult to source high quality vintage items?
Yes! But I am getting better and better at it and the vintage collection in the shop at the moment is the best yet.

What were you doing before you opened the store - and why did you decide to open the store in Clifden?
I have had shops all my life and this will be my 13th! Back in the eighties, I set up a chain of knitwear shops called Margaret Joyce shop and I sold high end labels such as Lainey Keogh and Glynis Robbins. After that, I worked as buyer/director for businessman John Sweeney, setting up Millers and the Design Platform at the Station House.I opened the store in Clifden, Connemara, because it is where my soul sings! It’s a lively cosmopolitan town surrounded by the most stunning scenery.

What's your favourite period in fashion?
I love the 20’s in particular. The loose dropped waists, the corsetry, the flapper dresses and the hats! A fabulous coat from the late 20’s would look stunning on any sized woman!

What do you love most about your job?
Being surrounded by beautiful things all day. The shop is so lovely to come into and to work in. I am very lucky.

What’s your motto?
My motto is to excite and create an unforgettable experience for everyone who enters my charming joyful world of loving vintage.
