Photographer David LaChapelle and singer Rihanna have reached a settlement following a lawsuit claiming Rihanna plagiarised images for a music video.

LaChapelle filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the singer, her label Def Jam Records and the director of her video for 'S&M', Melina Matsoukas. In the papers, the celebrity photographer claimed that the video plagiarised the "composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colours, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting" of eight of his images.

He was quoted as saying he is actually a fan of Rihanna but the lawsuit is just strictly business. He is also reported to have said "Musicians commonly pay to sample music or use someone's beats and there should be no difference when sampling an artist's visuals".

Both parties came to a settlement out of court and LaChapelle's publicist has stated that David is "happy" with the amount received.
