Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush

I'm in the process of trying to grow my hair out to the longest it's ever been, and as much as I'm loving the length after years of disastrously short hairstyles, upkeep is a pain.

I mean that literally too, the balayaged ends of my hair seem perennially to be matting and forming into miniature dreadlocks and trying to get a brush through my hair was a time consuming and painful process.

I bought the Tangle Teaser brush which I found at least took the ouch-factor out of the whole process, but it took absolutely ages to work though my mop.

The Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush (€27) has been a bit of a godsend, the size of the brush means that time spent working out knots has been halved, and it's really kind on the hair and scalp too.

It leaves my hair looking shiny and frizz free. I've also found it useful for drying my growing out fringe, I'm sure it would do a great job all over but I'm too lazy for proper blow dries!

I know that I'll have to go for a major chop some time in the not-too-distant future, but for now this brush is the most important addition to my hair routine.

Another Aveda product that's been slowing becoming a must-have is the Pure Abundance Hair Potion. I used a similar Swartzkopf product before, Osis Dust It, which provides a lived-in, mattified texture to hair, as well as loads of volume. I loved the effect this created, but it left hair feeling sticky and dried out so I could only bring myself to use it occasionally.

The Pure Abundance Hair Potion (€25) has the same hair thickening properties, but I find the texture much easier to deal with! A good one for upstyles, or just for creating a bed-head look.
