Do you love having a beautiful bag swinging from your arm, or something sparkly on your finger? If so then there’s a very special charity event happening in Dublin tomorrow that will be right up your fashion street...

Bags and Bling is the brain child of Sharon Crosbie and her friends who, as mothers themselves, want to help the mothers of faminie stricken Somalia, who are fighting for the lives of their starving children.

Sharon's original plan was to sell unwanted bags and jewellery amongst her group of friends, but when Caroline Desmond of MCD came on board, it has grown into a much bigger event.

"The generosity of people in offering their bags, jewellery and time has been overwhelming," said Sharon.

"Charlize Theron and Glenda Gilson have given beautiful bags already and Alison Doody, Louis Walsh, Diarmuid Gavin and Lorraine Keane have all promised to donate bags. The ladies behind Fran and Jane have given us jewellery and bags from their boutiques, Aidan Fitzgerald, the well-known hairdresser has donated 200 goodie bags and Irish designer, Deborah Veale has donated a beautiful bag from her collection."

As well as celebrites, ladies all over Ireland have been donating to the event, with wardrobes from Cork to Castleknock being emptied out for the cause.

"This is going to be such a fun girlie event," says Sharon. "There will be bags and bling for every age group and every pocket, and plenty of genuine designer bags including Gucci, Prada, and Fendi so come along and bring your friends, your sisters, your daughters, and your mother too!"

Bags and Bling is taking place at The Lost Society in Powerscourt Townhouse on Saturday 19 August from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free and all proceeds will go to the Somalian Famine Relief Fund administered through the office of Mary Robinson.
