This is going to be an unashamedly image-heavy review, as Chanel’s fabulous product shots say more than words ever can.
Their autumn makeup collection doesn’t hit counters until August 19, but it’s most definitely time to start saving your pennies to invest in a few bits from this great offering from the brand.
The star products from the range have to be new Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows (€28). The shadows, which come in six wonderful shades, are the most unusual texture. Presented in little glass pots with an accompanying brush for application, they look like loose powders – but when pressed with the finger tips have a soft, almost mousse-like texture due to the silicone-based formula.

The colour payoff is immense – and the brush provided really is excellent at dispensing the product evenly over the eyelid. These shadows are all shimmery, so may be better used for evening wear. I also found that the shade I tried (Illusoire – a purple/grey taupe) looked great as a liner too, when used with the precise, tapered edge of the brush. These are all permanent additions to the collection, a really lovely new innovation from the brand.

There is also a new eyeshadow quad (€46) consisting of a selection of very classic shades – grey brown, grey beige, luminous beige and deep taupe brown. This doesn’t look too exciting in the photo, but is gorgeous when applied – the shades are all chic and wearable.

With the emphasis so firmly on the eyes – cheeks are kept quite natural with a pretty new power blush Rose Ecrin (€36). This is a pale pink with just a hint of peachiness to create a very natural flush.

And onto the nails, unsurprisingly an area in which Chanel excels once more. Three shades, €21.50 each, join the range – the limited edition Graphite (silver, gold and platinum), and two new permanent colours Quartz (bronze and pink) and Peridot (gold and green).
The nail polish lineup
I tried the Graphite shade which is, quite frankly, amazing. I'm not really very adventurous generally with my polish choices but this has converted me! I used this over an existing polish I was wearing in a blush-taupe, and it really popped. With just one coat and a top coat, my nails were left fabulously shimmering! I would say you would need at least two coats if you were to apply on bare nails though.
The countdown begins.
The Chanel autumn makeup collection is available from August 19 from Chanel counters nationwide.
