She might be known as the fashion icon amongst the group, but Emma Watson failed to shine last night in a bizarre bronze gown at the New York premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

The actress who normally never puts a foot wrong tried to be adventurous in a strapless creation by Bottega Veneta which completely swamped her.

Of her dramatic gown, Emma said: "New York is such a fashion capital, I felt I could push the envelope a bit. With London I went a bit more classic but for today I wanted to do something edgier."

Emma completed her dramatic look with slicked-back hair and elaborate gold leaf eye make-up.

However, the boys of the franchise including Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton and Matthew Lewis looked very dapper for their last red carpet appearance together.

Rupert Grint, again the first of the film's stars to arrive, spent over an hour signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans on the red carpet. Visibly overwhelmed as he spoke to reporters, he said: "It's great to see everyone and the enthusiasm they have, it's very moving."

The young actors were joined by other stars of the film including Alan Rickman, and celebrity guests Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.
