Fashion and tennis fused last night for a pre-Wimbledon party celebrating female tennis stars.
Sir Richard Branson co-hosted the event in conjunction with the Women’s Tennis Association. This years marks the 125th anniversary of Wimbledon. Some of the notable stars included Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Eliza Doolittle and Naomie Harris.
The official outfitter of the Wimbledon tournament, Ralph Lauren, has also unveiled the new uniforms for the ball girls and boys. The navy polo shirts are detailed with green and purple diagonal sashes. An embroidered logo with ‘125th’ along with an anniversary crest will adorn the t-shirts. The complete look includes skirt or shorts and cap, wristband and tennis shoes.
The fashion house became the outfitter in 2006 and has signed to remain in their position with the tournament until 2015. They will design the uniforms for all on-court officials.
Tennis has been no stranger to harbouring budding fashionistas. Both Serena Williams and Andy Roddick have designed sportswear, Roddick designing recently for Lacoste. While players like Sharapova, Anna Kournikova, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal have all lended themselves to modelling stints.
Wimbledon begins on Monday and will last until Sunday July 3rd. The Ralph Lauren Wimbledon Collection is available in select stores and online at ralphlauren.com.
