Lady Gaga could soon be out of fashion if she continues to insult US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, after sending her an insulting text message.

The controversial pop star, who has previously made headlines for wearing a dress made of meat and arrived at an awards ceremony in an egg, admitted her embarrassment after accidently sending Wintour, high priestess of the fashion world, an insulting text message.

The singer, who was lauded an official fashion icon at this week's Council of Fashion Designers of America awards in New York, told the audience she sent the poorly-worded text to the wrong Anna.

"When I was told I won this award, Anna Wintour sent me a text message. She text messages!" Gaga said.

She continued: "She sent me a text message and it said, 'We're so excited to tell you that you won the CFDA Fashion Icon Award,' and I thought it was Anna Treblin, who is one of my very close friends [and her stylist's assistant], who I go out and have drinks with all the time"

In her confused state Lady Gaga sent an offensive text to Wintour by mistake but blamed in on the fact that she has numerous Annas' in her phone.

Anna replied by saying: "How lovely, and we will all be waiting to see what you will wear,'" she continued during her acceptance speech."

"Then I thought 'well won't you be helping me choose what I will wear?' and then I said 'oh! It's Anna Wintour!", says Gaga.

The ice-cold editor, who inspired the novel and subsequent film The Devil Wears Prada, did not make further comment about the incident.

The text message faux-pas was the second time Gaga had jeopardised her relationship Wintour.
