With summer just around the many guys will be slipping into t-shirts and shorts but, not if Tom Ford has anything to do with it.
The U.S. designer says they are a fashion faux pas and should not be worn in the summer even if the temperature becomes unbearable.
Ford told Another Magazine: "Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach."
The source of the designer's gripe is not clear, although there is little doubt shorts and flip-flops are extremely casual compared to the luxurious clothes he designs.
In the magazine interview he outlined the five steps that are necessary to be a 'modern gentleman', which included manners.
“I always open doors for women, I carry their coat,” he said.
