A spokesperson for Gisele has insisted that a translation mistake was to blame for a recent statement which quoted her as referring to sunscreen as "poison".
In promotional material for her natural skincare line Sejaa, the model reportedly claimed that she avoided going out in the sun after in the day in order to avoid having to use an SPF cream or "anything synthetic".
A rep for Gisele told People: "They misquoted her due to a language barrier.
"Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has family members who have had skin cancer."
The statement continued: "She simply stated that her all-natural skincare line does not include an SPF product. She followed that line of questions saying she tried to stay out of the sun when it is the strongest between 9am to 4pm.
"When using sunscreens she selects ones that are free of parabens, oxybenzone, PABA and retinyl palmitate. She buys her sunscreen at Whole Foods, so she can find ones that are free of harsh chemicals. She says, 'Of course I put on sun block. I don't want to look like a shrimp!'"
